Fertility

For several thousand years, acupuncture and Chinese
herbs have been used to support fertility. There are very well established methods that are useful by themselves, in part by reducing stress, calming the mind, regulating and balancing hormones, and supporting the body in it’s ability to not only conceive, but to nourish a growing fetus. Several conditions that often respond well to Acupuncture and Chinese herbs include: Anovulation, hormonal imbalances, uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts, tubal blockages, stress related dysfunction, regulating the menstrual cycle, invigorating the sperm, raising low sperm count and motility, and other unexplained reductions in fertility…Acupuncture is also a very helpful adjunct
therapy to modern reproductive techniques including in-vitro fertilization (IVF), and intra-uterine insemination (IUI). We have worked with hundreds of women with different conditions or causes for reduced fertility.

Modern Research
A study published in the Fertility and Sterility journal found the acupuncture improves
pregnancy success rate by 50% in women undergoing in-vitro fertilization. Paulus W, et. al.,
Influence of acupuncture on the pregnancy rate in patients who undergo assisted reproduction
therapy. J Fertility and Sterility, 2002 April;77(4):721-4.

The Basic Treatment Plan
Treatment plans will vary based upon your individual needs. In general, most women need
a minimum of 3 to 6 months of acupuncture to help adjust any imbalances. We like to have
people wait until after this time to undergo any assisted reproductive procedures. You will go
through a lot during those procedures, physically, emotionally, spiritually…. so the more in
balance you can become prior, the better your chances of success. However, acupuncture will
still be helpful if you are scheduled to start with assisted reproduction sooner. Treatments at
Zoe Lotus Healing Arts can help reduce your stress levels, help reduce the side effects of any
medications, and help your body stay in balance to support the uterus for implantation.
